DYCE is based on 3 main axes: -stimulating young musical creativity in Europe and giving young European composers international professional opportunities -involving the public in activities of cultural growth and participation -thanks to Storytellers, innovatively communicating DYCE from inside: through videos, interviews, posts, all protagonists share their work,features,motivations,difficulties,satisfactions. Europe is divided in 4 regions, each "administered" by one of the 4 DYCE partners-ensembles specialised in performing/teaching contemporary music. Two European calls select 20 composers (among students from all European academies) and 4 "Storytellers", and the 4 partners carry out many Audience Development activities, aimed at providing the public with tools for knowledge, conscious listening, and evaluation of today's music. After the performance of the 20 winning pieces in 4 live streaming concerts in the partner cities, the audience and the ensembles vote for the best composers. As a result, 12 new pieces are commissioned: 4 for ensemble and 8 for solo instrument. Each solo composer chooses a performer to collaborate with during the writing: 8 "musical pairs" are formed and tutored by the partners. During the project, the Storytellers travel (to composers,pairs,academies,concerts,conventions), write interviews, stories, presentations, and post their materials on DYCE website and on FB + IG. At least 32 videos are produced and dozens of posts. In June 2023 each partner performs in concert the 4 new pieces for ensemble + 2 new pieces for solo. The 4 composers for ensemble stay for 3 days in each city and participate in the rehearsals, working closely with the 4 partners. A round table about composition teaching and a final DYCE convention take place in Milan with all protagonists: partners, composers, performers, storytellers, academy members,audience. The video recordings of concerts, convention, and Storytellers' material remain available on DYCE website.
